Design and Process Planning Technician - Wood Panel Based Furniture

Description of Duties

The general role requires detail designing commercial bespoke furniture solutions to meet customer requirements for use in retail or similar facilities. This entails interpretation of that requirement and development into a furniture solution to achieve this. The scope would include related items such as wall panelling, ceiling rafts and functional fittings used in retail. The technician would output this work in the form of CAD files, design drawings, production plans, material lists and purchase requirements. This work needs to be done in a project format with management of requirements to defined timelines and often working as part of a larger team, for which they are expected to contribute and report into.

Specific skills would be:

A thorough understanding of panel based furniture products, components and design.

Ability to review and produce engineering quality drawings on CAD (Solidworks) format of shop furniture and related products that WSG supply.

Develop customer specifications into wood panel furniture, interfacing with respective metal fabrications and glass materials to meet these requirements.

Manage complete customer project designs to agreed timelines and quality.

Contribute to design review meetings for new projects and proposals.

Develop and optimise CAD and CAM systems to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the product design process.

Promote new design, material and components to enhance the quality, effectiveness and delivery of WGS products and services.

Qualifications & Experience

HNC or similar in mechanical, construction or production systems preferred. A vocational qualification could be accepted with relevant experience.

Exposure to managing minor projects independently.

Experience wood panel design and manufacture at a technical level advantageous.

Experience in the shop-fitting, exhibition or related architectural services advantageous.

Salary £30-35K depending upon skills and experience. Start Early 2017.
